Social and Ethical Issues
John Stott, author of the influential book, “Issues Facing Christians Today”, used to talk about ‘double listening’. By that, he meant the need to listen both to the Word of God and to the world in order to relate the one to the other. We should expect Scripture to be able to say something about everything that’s happening in the world today.
With that as one of our guiding principles, the Social and Ethical Issues Group hopes to be able keep you informed of the trends and topics impacting our society, and to think through a Christian response to them.
You can expect information and explanation from us, and sometimes a request for some sort of action. You can expect us to be touching on issues which have traditionally been at the heart of Christian concern – the beginning and end of life, marriage and family, social justice – although really no issue will be off-limits if we believe there is a need to develop a Christian response to it.
We also believe that it is important to suggest opportunities for service and we will be regularly highlighting developments in Christian social action.
